Chapter Committees


To promote SAR mission areas, the Ozark Mountain Chapter participates in a number of NSSAR committees. Committee chairs help the chapter have a positive impact on our community by facilitating participation in relevant events and activities. Listed below are committees in which members are currently engaged. Please contact us for more information on how to get involved. 


CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Charles McMillan, Chairman
The CEC meets monthly to organize all chapter activities and programs, keeping in mind the chapter’s twelve-month goal and priorities.  The CEC plans and engages members to execute everything from JROTC Awards, Police, Fire and EMT Awards, wreath laying events, Flag Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day events, grave markings and school visits.  Members include all Chapter Officers and Committee Chairmen.  Past Presidents are invited to attend.  We will meet in person and by Zoom.


PATRIOT NEWSLETTER

Dan Piedlow, Editor
The Ozark Mountain Chapter regularly publishes a Patriot Newsletter  documenting many of the activities participated in by members of the Ozark Mountain Chapter.  The Patriot Newsletter is distributed among our members, community participants and various members of Missouri SAR and SAR National leadership.


EAGLE SCOUT RECOGNITION

Gary Bishop, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter conducts a contest each year to determine the Best Eagle Scout for SAR National recognition.  The Ozark Mountain Chapter winner receives a cash award of $250.00 and recognition from the chapter and is advanced to Missouri SAR competition for additional recognition and the opportunity to advance to SAR National competition.


JROTC / ROTC

Cris Brayman, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter honors Outstanding Cadets from eleven schools in Southwest Missouri.  Our Compatriots personally present awards to these young men and women each year.  The Ozark Mountain Chapter also offers a competition for a JROTC Advanced Cadet program.  The Ozark Mountain Chapter winner receives a cash award of $250.00 and recognition from the chapter and is advanced to Missouri SAR competition for additional recognition and the opportunity to advance to SAR National competition.


PATRIOT BIOGRAPHIES

Ken Lawrence, Chairman 
The chapter gathers the biographies of our Patriots to add to the SAR National database. These biographies are edited and entered into the database.


NATIONAL HISTORY DAY

Norman Knowlton, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter works with Missouri State University to provide  Compatriot judges for the Annual History Day event.  The Ozark Mountain Chapter also presents the William Garrett Piston Middle School Teacher Merit Award and the George Hummasti High School Merit Award.  


AMERICANISM BROCHURE CONTEST

Dan Piedlow, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter conducts a competition among middle schools for Outstanding Historic Brochure that best represents the goals of SAR National.  The Ozark Mountain Chapter winner receives a cash award of  $150.00 and recognition from the Ozark Mountain Chapter and is advanced to Missouri SAR competition for additional recognition and the opportunity to advance to SAR National competition.


AMERICANISM POSTER CONTEST

Dan Piedlow, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter conducts an annual Outstanding Historic Poster  contest among local grade schools.  The Ozark Mountain Chapter winner receives a cash award of $150.00 and recognition from the chapter and is advanced to Missouri SAR competition for additional recognition and the opportunity to advance to SAR National competition.


YEARBOOK

Ben Edmondson, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter maintains a yearbook of all activities so that we might have an archive of those significant events in the life of the extended communities which we serve.


AMERICANISM AWARD

Dan Piedlow, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter maintains a record of all Ozark Mountain Chapter activities and accomplishments for submission to Missouri SAR to determine the most active chapter in Missouri and support Missouri SAR totals for SAR National recognition.


PARTNERS IN PATRIOTISM

J. Howard Fisk, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter reports all appropriate historic and patriotic activities to SAR National.  The chapter has often been recognized for outstanding leadership and service to our community.


STARK REPORT

Charles McMillan, Chairman 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter reports all activities that directly support veterans.  In addition, the Stark Report acknowledges all ceremonial activities of a patriotic nature, such as Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth  of July, Veterans Day, etc.


EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH

J. Howard Fisk and Dale Moore, Co-Chairmen 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter conducts ongoing education outreach to local school and public organizations.  We provide quarterly Historic Explorers events to the public, monthly history classes at WOLF School and a variety of educational programs across other venues during the year.


ELECTRONIC MEDIA

J. Howard Fisk and Dale Moore, Co-Chairmen 
The Ozark Mountain Chapter maintains a site for a variety of podcasts.  History Briefs are those five to seven minute podcasts about people and events in American History.  Other more lengthy podcasts are generally interviews with subject matter experts and outstanding persons in particular fields of historic interest.


SOCIAL MEDIA

Dan Piedlow, Chairman  
The Ozark Mountain Chapter maintains a social media presence in order to share chapter activities with the community at large and with other patriotic based organizations throughout the country. 


NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Charles McMillan, Chairman
The Ozark Mountain Chapter conducts an annual election of officers who will then serve for the following year.  The Chairman is the Past President and the two previous Presidents of the OMC Chapter.
